Strengthening the Force. Protecting the Mission.

When units are strong, missions succeed. SafeSide equips leaders and personnel with proven programs that help build readiness, strengthen cohesion, and give every service member the support they need.

SafeSide Connect reduces hidden suicide risk (Wyman et al., 2020, 2022) and creates a culture of support. The program protects vulnerable service members through stronger networks, not just individual detection.

SafeSide Connect Testimonials

Wingman Connect training is different in a way because it has a lot more interactivity within it. There's a lot more I put into it, and the more I put into it, the more I'm getting out of it because I'm really sharing with others and accepting other people's takes.

Wingman Guardian Connect Participant

A change that I noticed within myself after Wingman Connect is I feel like I've opened up a lot more. I've always been an outgoing and very open book type of person, but I also never left my room. I'll be frank, I just don't leave my room. I'm not going to, I don't want to. But since I made a lot of those friendship bonds in Wingman Connect, people forced me to leave my room and really want to go places.

The people who run Wingman Connect have a good way of being like, ‘Hey, this person from this group hasn't spoken, so let's get your take’. And then that person who once felt lonely has a chance to express themself and maybe connect with others a little bit more. And I feel like that's really important.

SafeSide CARE Testimonials

This workshop has assisted in boosting my confidence in how to most appropriately approach a person at risk of suicide, particularly in my work environment. There are times it can feel very daunting when you are working with someone that you don't know (or have a familiar relationship with) that are expressing thoughts of suicide. This workshop helped solidify my confidence in how to most appropriately provide assistance to a person I am not familiar with.

Direct Support Staff, SafeSide CARE Participant

SafeSide's content and its people are amazing. The support we receive and the connections that have been made are improving our ability to provide a service that is truly "beyond safety". We already held the values, many parts of the knowledge, and some of the skills, but the SafeSide Framework brings it all together, and helps us to identify what we are doing well and where we need to keep building.

Frequently Asked Questions

How does SafeSide work with the military?

SafeSide combines Connect (unit resilience and cohesion) with CARE (leadership and crisis response skills). Together, they strengthen readiness, trust, and protection across the force.

What is the time commitment?

SafeSide Connect: 6–8 hours across three sessions.

SafeSide CARE: 2–3 hour modules for supervisors, leaders, and health staff. Both are delivered flexibly to fit operational demands.

How is this different from other training?

Unlike traditional lectures, SafeSide uses interactive programs with facilitated experiential learning in Connect and InPlace® Learning in CARE. Both are efficient, evidence-based, and built to support without overloading personnel.

How do we get started?

We consult with your command to understand your needs and schedule. Together, we design an implementation plan that fits your priorities and operational tempo.

What about cost?

Pricing varies by unit size and delivery format. Most commands find that the cost is less than a single lost training day, with the return of stronger cohesion, lower attrition, and fewer corrective actions.

How does this address hidden risk?

Connect reduces isolation and strengthens cohesion. CARE equips leaders to step in early with a clear, consistent response. This dual approach protects those who might otherwise be missed.

How do we know it works?

A gold-standard RCT with 1,500 Airmen showed Connect reduced suicide risk, depression, and corrective training. CARE evaluations show confidence in responding rose from 72% to 95%.

How is training delivered?

SafeSide Connect is delivered in interactive group sessions. SafeSide CARE is delivered through InPlace® Learning with workshops and continuous learning opportunities.

Does this replace existing protocols?

No. SafeSide complements current requirements by strengthening networks, improving responses, and ensuring consistency across the chain of command.

Can our units train in-house Connect facilitators?

Yes. Early on, SafeSide provides expert facilitators. Once the program is established, we prepare in-house trainers to deliver with fidelity and scale.

Can SafeSide be customized for our units?

Yes. SafeSide adapts content, language, and visuals so training reflects your unit’s identity and culture. Options range from minor enhancements to full integration with command priorities.

Stronger Units. Confident Leaders. Mission Ready.
